Эллиптические кривые — cool as fuck

Everyone knows that elliptic curves are cool as fuck. But who knows what the Mathematicians are thinking? Who knows if their rank can be arbitrarily large? And why do we think of them as fondly as we think of the mythical (nonexistent?) 17th-century proof of FLT? Perchance. I believe it was Eichler who said “There are five fundamental operations in mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and modular forms.” Elliptic curves exhibit the first four by being over a field, but they exhibit modular forms by stating ℘(z) = 1/z² + ∑ₖ₌₁^∞(2k + 1)G₂ₖ₊₂z²ᵏ (notwithstanding the easy L(s, E) = L(s, f)). Keep it up, baby! When Mathematicians leave their place of safety to compute Φ₂₃(X, Y), they know they may Die before finishing. And yet, for a Pure Mathematician, a natural number is merely a transitive set of transitive sets. An abstract entity whose value can be ignored, much as how a Category Theorist feels elements are unimportant. We think of elliptic curves as heroes, but they are simply the one dimensional among the more general abelian varieties. The lifekind. Perchance.
